Archived: Abandoned Military Base - Velebit Mountain

Hello everyone!

This location was visited in April, 2012. It's quite a "cooldown" watching it during the summer... Our first checkpoint was the mountaineer refuge Zavižan, after a break from a tiresome hike we continued our way to the abandoned military base Velebitska Plješevica. It was a long hike in difficult conditions- darkness and a meter of snow!

The original plan was to sleep inside the base like in Guslica but due to bad air circulation and a few other reasons we decided to drop the whole idea of sleeping inside. After a thorough photo session we returned to the refuge Zavižan. The next day we went to the Zavižan peak and took photos of our long planned next objective - Goli otok!

Also, if someone is planing on visiting, watch out for bears, there are a couple of feeding places for bears near the base!
