The original Martello tower was built in 1855. By 1892 it was used a a mining station.
Two 4.7" guns were added in 1912. And later it became an anchor for the Medway Boom, connecting it to the beach at Grain.
The Barrack block and O.P. were built during WW2 and the guns were changed to a 6pdrs and an AA gun.
