Regal cinema, Grimsby, Feb 2013
Not posted anything for a while n wanted to get in here for ages but its well sealed, so after a few evenings scoping it out we were in....
A little history nicked from the local media
The cinema first opened in 1937 as the Regal with 1,966 seats, and was renamed the ABC in 1961.
In 1966, the former stalls were converted into a supermarket, with the cinema occupying the original balcony area.
By 1980, there were three screens, with 300 seats in screen one, 225 in screen two and 125 in screen three, and it went through a number of operators following that, including Cannon, Classic, and MGM, and was then known again as ABC, before becoming an Odeon in 2001, following a £100,000 rebranding scheme.
The Odeon closed in December 2004 and Kwik Save in May 2007.
It lay dormant for eight years before Shropshire businessman Trevor Harris renovated it and opened it as the Regal Cinema in August 2009.
But it closed just weeks later, with Mr Harris saying it would cost tens of thousands more pounds to properly restore it to its former glory.
The building has been empty ever since and is currently up for auction
The photos arnt great as it was pitch black inside and im still learning with the camera.
The main area wasnt that interesting but after looking round and finding a little passage way n stairs leading up to an old managers office, projection room and access to the roof it got a little more interesting, the managers office was full of old film reels, slides, hand writen logs and much more

The reception area looks quite good in a deco syle and railings to match. It's wierd to see a Odeon and ABC clash because it has features from both chains. What was on them slides? Looks like someones failed at DIY safecracking

well done i cinemas have to be my favorites! :)
Re: Regal cinema, Grimsby, Feb 2013
nice you got in there, it is odd to have Odeon seats in an ABC. Itll take a lot of work to restore it but its a possibility- maybe keep it as dual use by turning the quicksave into a restaurant/pub and restoring the cinema.
