Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011
This post is not worth the hassle getting to really, The Hatch is welded and the Hasps are also welded. :( The key hole is full of pebbles and stones, :( but if you want to go for the sake of just going then thats up to you, but if you want to get in there's no chance of that. :( . But i suspect it would of had a few things of interest in as well.
This post is in a corner of a field next to a minor road near Hesket Newmarket, difficult to find and there's no path to it so there's a whole load of nettles and thorns. :thumb
We were in a rush so sorry for the lack of photo's.

Re: Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011

Re: Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011
Yeah, Krypton i will, its just i was getting used to the other sections where you didnt need to. :)
Re: Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011
Shame its welded but sure it was done with perfect reason, still good job for taking a look :thumb
What's odd is that looking from the subbrit picture below the whole post was painted in camo including the base, seems to be a faint mark of it on your 2nd to last picture...

Re: Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011
yea, i guess your right, but i'm no expert on what colours the posts should be painted but thats a really nice photo of it really, its a shame within 10 years they turn from colourfull to rusty and with most of the paint removed. :(,
Re: Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011
One of the strangest posts ive visted is Osmotherly - depsite closing in 1968, over 42 years ago and being on top of a wide open moor, it still retains nearly all its green paint! Whereas some that were closed in 1991 have none left now.
As for paint, the standard issue colour was Olive Green for everything on the external, however, no one came round with a checklist so it was up to the Chief Observer of the post really. They were mostly green however i have visited a white one and a grey one.
Re: Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011
Yeah it is strange how the paint remains on some and dissapears on others, on Subbrit most of the posts in good condition have all the paint, and they went in like 1999-2001, 10 years after the remaining posts were shut, but another 10 years later all the paint has gone, it's like where's it all gone :)
Re: Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011
Thats the mystery of the paint - who knows!
Lets get scooby doo on the case
Re: Caldbeck ROC Post ( Cumbria Group ) July 2011
hahaha, its like the first ten years of closure and all the paint remains but 20 years after its all gone, well that is twice the time it's just been standing there, how does the paint erode ??,
