Chop Gate ROC Post (Restored) 2011 Open Day
After the success of last year, myself and Triplesix who look after the post decided we should hold another open day. It was a fantastic success and a credit to all the work we have put in. This elderly gentleman visited the post, although he couldnt get down and we took his camera down for him, he said he has an original picture of Hitler's suicide in his Bunker in Berlin, that he would like to give to us!
I must say the day started a bit iffy. It was wet and windy, not what you want. It got to 10 o clock and no one. We had set all the post up and was just waiting for anyone to run up. "Has the rain deterred them"? In short the answer was a resounding NO. All of a sudden, people started traipsing into the compound, forum members, historians, locals and walkers alike. By eleven the post was getting quite busy and by 1, the post was unbelivably busy with hords of people waiting. However if they were waiting they had free drinks and burgers and could chat to ex observers to see what their memories were. For those that couldnt get down, we had a photoalbum upstairs. About 1/half 1 the sun came out which really was fantastic and just brought more people up to the post.
We raised over £200 which just goes to show how impressed people were with the service we offered to them. This will go towards purchasing our own siren as well as a few other bits and bob, not to mention maintenence costs for this and possibly next year.
Thankyou to all the visited, donated and showed interest and support in our project.
Heres a few snaps from the day, taken when it was still a bit wet and rainy,

Looks as if the day turned out ok in the end! Nice to see you went for the ROC "minamalistic" look this time, as it would really have looked:thumb As opposed to overwhelming the post with ROC memorabilia!
Remember "What goes down, must come back up"
We will be opening our post up towards the end of June, for our innaugral ceremony:thumb
Job well done there Jack:thumb

Thanks TM. Yeah last time i really did fill every gap on the walls with bits of paperwork, but decided that it was looking a bit too cluttered. We actually had more equipment down there this time than last time but i just held off on the paperwork!!!!!
