Can't get enough of this place
Every minute/hour of the day, it is a changing landscape, no matter what time of the day.
I was doing a survey of some shelters late in the afternoon, with some torches and measuring equipment for company Oh! and a camera along for recording purposes.
This is my story of a few hours alone, some concrete and and some fantastic late afternoon weather.
Arrived around 15.00 hrs. a couple of hours daylight left, first shot, unbelievable
The weather was playing with me I got side tracked as I rolled off some shots of the changing landscape that was unfolding before me
The vast open landscape of the base was amazing in this distant shot of the QRA security fence.
But on with the job in hand To record some HAS Shelters, no lights working so in we go! Torch in hand!
As I open the blast door an echo reveberates around the interior of this cavanous shelter to Nuclear Armageddon Alone a chill runs down my legs what will I find in the darkness?
My torch beam is lost in the vastness of the shelter and as I slowly walk around this greeted me on the back wall
Wall Art of the highest order I had no idea this was in here a fantastic find, sealed up and left in the dark since the yanks pulled out back in 1993
I spent an hour in the shelter carrying out my survey, as I left and closed the blast door the day light was having its last breath, again with spectacular results
Apologies for so many pics but it was a fantastic few hours, spent alone, on an old Cold War base, now quiet and still but still commands a presence
Thanks for looking
