Arrow ADM Mill 'Spillers' Newcastle, March 11

Well after 8 months myself and thestig thought it was time for a re-visit. And it has changed so much thanks to the pikies/chavs.

Back in July we hadn't managed to complete this huge site, but after spending 4 hrs in here this time round it's still an amazing place to explore. Bumped into some explorers which made them jump more than us.

Spiller's Tyne Mill has stood on the bank of the Tyne since the 1930's and was then the tallest flour milling building in the world. Spillers had come to Newcastle from Bridgewater in 1896 when they acquired Daudson's Phoenix Mill in the Close. The Tyne mill replaced this older complex. There were two main buildings - the Silo designed to hold 34,000 tons of grain and the Flour Mill which also contained a warehouse and animal food mill.

Milling conglomerate Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) who produced flour for Greggs and Pride Valley foods, closed its huge Newcastle plant in May 2006.

    Thanks for looking.
