    Default Kirkham Priory, North Yorkshire

I pass this beautiful place twice a day on the train, and finally got round to paying a visit, it's not strictly "urbex" but some interesting architecture none the less, and it was safe enough to take my daughter who turned 7 today!

A monastic building has existed on this site since 1122, and was occupied until the dissolution of the monastaries in 1538, the assets were sold off and the majority of the stone was used to build nearby Howsham Hall. I had not realised but during WW2 the army used this site to practice loading and unloading from landing craft on the river Derwent!!

    I hope you like them:

And finally, seen in the distance, the delightful Kirkham signal box:

    Cheers

Thanks everyone for your kind comments, I was lucky with the dark skies and low sun, it makes for a cracking photo opportunity.

    Cheers
