Some History
St Thomas’s Hospital opened in 1841 as a workhouse which was known as the ‘grubber’. The building comprised of workshops, shops, washhouses and hospital and lunatic wards.
The site later became a hospital for psycho-geriatric patients and was known as Shaw Heath Hospital. In 1954, the site was renamed St Thomas’s Hospital until it finally closed in October 2003 and the site was brought by Stockport College to expand their campus.
Visited the site with BB and although much of the site has been demolished or converted, there is still a bit to see
