Arrow Sealed at last - Bempton ROTOR R1 Bunker - April 2011

After many many visits I was stunned to find the R1 bunker at the former RAF Bempton has been filled and sealed. Not really much left to see here now but a few empty Type 80 radar plinths and a few scattered WW2 Chain Home buildings.

The emergency exit and vent have also been filled in and welded.

You can see whats down there by clicking here

Receiver Block for Mark 1 Type 80 Radar

This is where you went down to the underworld, it's now filled with the roof and has these 10 ton concrete blocks over it.

Remains of the guardhouse / bungalow

    Welded escape hatch and vent.

Thi sis what remains of Project Winkle, a still classified over the horizon radar prototype based here in the 1970s

Under the radar, over the top
