    Default Angle HAA site

Angle HAA, decription from the Defence of Britain database

40 mm Bofors. Semi-sunken, irregular plan, fair-faced brick gun emplacements. Externally revetted with earth, detachment shelter to rear, ammunition recesses within wall thickness.

After spotting a way down into the magazine below I thought it would be rude not to have a look!

Unfortunately this was the only underground part that had access.

    Very nice Scott.

As there is no evidence of recent access, and the evidence that is there is of vintage access and use.. could you please edit out your point and means of access from both the text and the images? It's pretty unchavved in the magazines, which is unusual and it would be a shame to see it graf'd up.

The underground magazines are not of WWII but date from an earlier period, - Victorian! Possibly a Palmerston Fort was located on this site.
The recesses in the walls are for oil lamps, the magazine's generally comprised of a Shifting Lobby, Cartridge store, and magazine room.

    Pic.3 is the Cartridge room.
Pic.6 is the Magazine room, with the shell issuing hatch ahead!

The lamp recesses were normally placed in between the walls of the rooms to illuminate the interiors!

    Nice explore

    Very nice report and explore
The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.

Thanks for that, I can find no record of a palmerston fort on this site, although there are a few in the area. Whats left above ground does indicate more than just a site for a 40mm bofors.
