    Post Great douk - March - 11

Went to Great Douk for my first taste of caving. Went with Captain caveman who knows his stuff . The day didn't get off to a good start I brought my sisters wellies which I didn't find , out till we had changed as we were ready to hit our main target, so we had to go back to the village and sheepishly asked the guy at the hire shop for wellies we sped of to the this place.

Great Douk must have been known for a very long time, but the first reference to it may be found in John Hutton's Addendum to the second edition of West's Guide to the Lakes published in 1780. Grade one difficulty, first through trip accomplished in 1934, entrances and exits - Main (lower) entrance ,Little Douk (skylight), Middle Washfold (main exit), length 914 metres.
