Arrow High Royds - April 08

The High Royds Residential Village is well underway and I wanted to visit before it was too late. I visited with sqwasher and managed to see quite a lot within the whole day, as he had been before. Many of the buildings to the right of Admin are already converted and some occupied! However, the Admin block and all the buildings to the left had not been started although some corridors were stacked with building materials, etc so transformation is imminent. The visit began with the Administration building as this was one of the first sections of the hospital that I wanted to see. The beautifully ornate building didn't disappoint although it was sad to see the deterioration. The ballroom with its stage was impressive even though the grand fireplaces are bricked over and the joists peeped down through where the ceiling was meant to be and the tragic corridors lined with ornate tiles and peeling paint are flooded with water in places. After a very long explore in there, we made our way round and in to Stainton and Merrick wards then Bolton and Barden, also investigating inside some of the corridors that are still standing between. Then we made our way round and in to the Mortuary, the Facilities Managers house and Linton house last. During the trip we also investigated some of the tunnels and climbed up in to a water tower and roof void but were unfortunately defeated when it came to getting in to the clock tower! Here are some pics from the day:

    The solitary chapel and graveyard:

    And for the many!

The front view with the famous clock tower

A pigeon eye view from above the stage

    In the tunnels:

    And the roof void:

    Thanks for looking.
