After the closure of Ledston Luck colliery in 1986([ url]http://www.urbexforums.co.uk/showthread.php/13127-Ledston-Luck-Mine-Castleford-April-11?highlight=ledston+peckfield[/url] )The light railway 2’ 6” gauge that run to Pecfield transporting the coal was no longer needed .
I can remember steam trains running there as a child and decided to see what remains of the railway which run parallel to the A656 and under the A63 roundabout.
The trackbed is easily visable as a row of trees on google earth and after scrambling through brambles found the ledston side just after the ledston industrial estate
The trackbed gets gradually deeper until you hit the blocked tunnel portal
Numbers on portal
Two 6” Victaulic pipes capped off enter the tunnel base
Tunnel portal at peckfield end
Now theres a deep limestone cutting
One of the two track plates found
Wooden sleepers still buried
Water pipes over head
Bridge to a local farm filled with junk
Trackplate complete with 2 dog nails
Brick structure as trackbed disappears at peckfield
After this the trackbed disappeared under piles of pit rubble more pictures on my photobucket if you can face anymore
