Default Hartford Mill, Oldham, September 2011

Welcome to Hartford Mill. You've seen it before no doubt.

Built 1907 by the Hartford Mill (Oldham)Co Ltd. Extended 1920 and 1924. Closed 1959 and used by Littlewoods as a mail order warehouse until 1992. Architect was F W Dixon, there were 120,000 spindles and power was provided by a very impressive 1500 hp Urmson & Thompson engine.

Visited with ZerO81 whose entry to the mill made me do a little bit of wee

    Cheers chaps.

I'm not sure words could do the entry justice but let's just say it involved a bit (a lot) of blood, a bit (a lot) of clothes ripping and a bit (a lot) of a fall onto the mill floor.
