    Default Th'owd Towser, Homfirth 11/9/11

This building doesn't look like much from outside, but it's reputedly the oldest building in Holmfirth, dating from 1597, and was open for the Heritage Open Days weekend.

It has quite a history to it

There are two rooms upstairs, one with a wooden floor (which was replaced in the 70s) and the stone floored jail cell. Not sure what the bottle is all about!

This window is the only source of light to the cell

Looks like birds have tried to make a home here at some point

The lower floor is the garage which housed the fire engine. It's fairly unremarkable.

The doors have been replaced, but the original hinges remain

Unfortunately a lot of the original features have been replaced in a not entirely sympathic way - the jail cell has a metal grill door rather than the wooden original, for example.

There's a piece about the place on the BBC website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-14843733
