Arrow Old Tunnels, Helmshore Park - October 2008

A bit Shite this, but went to investigate some old tunnels in our local park i got told about recently.
I never knew they existed before, and i've lived in the area for 38years

The 2 tunnels run parallel to each other.

I think they could be water outlets for the old mill, then ran into a lake where the park is located now.
Very stonky in places, and averaged about 3foot in height throughout (lowest was a mere 18 inches ),
except the entrance part - that went to about 10foot high.
Plenty of spiders were living inside.

i didn't get to the ends due to time, but will find out where they come from / lead to proper another day.

    A Few Pics

    "it's behind you"

There is a similar tunnel not too far away.
that went from the river to another old mill.

just can't work out where these come from, as they lead away from the river and are quite a bit higher up the hill from the river.

i'll get to the bottom of it soon

Good one mate. I like the lighting on these. Don't like the sound of "plenty of spiders" though. Sounds like an interesting research project there.

    Thanks Box

I've got a few locals puzzled by it on our local community forum.
they know the locations of the mills that was nearby, and the river.

i don't know why there is 2 tunnels parallel, and not just one "wider" one. Hmm
