    Thumbs up steam locomotive

pretty sure it is a great western type, it languishes in east lancs railways yard and as such is pretty secure i got permision from a member to head on down after he challenged what i was doing to check i wasn't a pikey

    some cylinder shots

    next the firebox and cab

a load of bulloids ( wheels that is ) of the loco i went to shoot ( a battle of britain class ) now stripped and on the long road to restoration

there were some diesel types present wondering why lightning and ghostly shapes were apeering around a steam loco !!

methinks it is a great western goods type of 2-8-0 wheel layout

    steam meets diesel !!

    ta fer looking !!

that's not "just" a diesel ...That Sir is a Deltic and as such one of THE finest bits of English Electric engineering .

Twin Napier deltic powered and a magnificent beast when "clagging" .

You should have been there the other week when there were 5 of the Beasts running trips .

Possibly a GWR? Hard to tell with all its outer boiler skin missing. Always nice milling around old railway grave yards.

From the loco lists, parked up and awaiting restoration are:
    • Barclay No. 1
    • GWR 2884 Class, 3855 - 2-8-0 heavy freight loco
    • GWR 7200 Class, 7229 - 2-8-2T heavy freight tank loco
    • SR Battle of Britain Class, 34073 "249 Squadron" - 4-6-2 mixed traffic loco, Wiki has an interesting photo of this loco languishing at Woodhams' scrapyard in Barry
    • LMS Stanier 8F, 48518 - 2-8-0 heavy freight loco, not much of this one left, only the frames with much removed for use on other restorations

Of those I can find listed, only the GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 would appear to match the arrangement and condition of the loco you've photographed.

Tornado64 - is 249 Squadron now being restored? the lists I can find appear to be rather out-of-date and a couple of them mention that 249 Squadron was stripped for parts that were used on Tangmere?

Excellent photographs, the lightpainting really adds to the mood.

got a shock realy when i went , the yard is now practicaly clear of awaiting restoration locos 249 squadron is well stripped down and well underway in ian rileys shops as he got fed up trying to sell it so decided to do it himself , i think the biggest job on that will be having to make a complete new tender as i believe there are none left

also morning star has now left and seems to be progressing well at shillingstone railway http://www.flickr.com/photos/jalapenokitten/4097849448/

this is the point i'll probbably realy wizz you off!!

when i was a kid my pops was a B.R. guard and as such i went with him on the trains and practicaly spent my youth in the cabs of , DMU's , class 40's , 47's , 25's , 37's and 350 shunts

highlights of that period were being allowed to drive a DMU from wigan to southport whilst sitting on the drivers knee being supervised and also having a cab ride in 40.126 ( the great train robbery loco , a full explore was undertaken of that one ) including walking through the engine room whilst engines were running unfortunately because of its history it was broken up in private at crewe ( a sad state of affairs as it was heritage ) not necessarily the best but then niether was guy fawkes or dick turpin !!
