Default Kenmure Castle, Dumfries and Galloway, 2011.

    Here goes...

Ok this was our best find of 2011. We were camping with friends in Dumfries and Galloway and came across the well-hidden Kenmure Castle, at the end of a very long, overgrown avenue of trees.

A lot of it was very unsafe but we managed to get into a couple of areas. The castle has a long history and had a few additions/restorations over the years. Some very interesting information was found on the following site - http://www.matthewpemmott.co.uk/2008...-galloway.html Worth a read.

    Hope you enjoyed it.

Thanks Scrappy. I'm still trying to find my way around and wasn't sure if I was in the right place.

Prison yes - it was a very eerie place even in the daylight. I thought victorian assylum. It has a long history - bombarded castle, family mansion, hotel. I think it had burnt down once or twice. The grounds were fantastic too and included an old walled garden. I think you'd have to be quite brave to go back at night - we thought about it but then opted for the Hungarian paprikash and a drop of palinka around the camp fire. Much cosier.

I guess I ought to have put Kenmure Castle in the title ... might have made it appear more interesting than 'first report' doh

I have to say the same! Night time visit with mega long exposures would look creepy!

The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.
