Schofield & Smith manufactured the finest English worsted cloth. The firm moved to Clough Road Mills in 1971. The company is thrived during the 70’s and the 80’s. Schofield & Smith had one hundred employees, with a production of 250,000 meters of fine worsteds a year. Most of the production was exported: in the Far East, Middle East or Europe.
They left in 2008 and the mill has laid bare since. Planning for conversion has been refused since.
