    Default Tanfield Culvert July 2012

Well here it go's my first report .

Hopefully my photos are not to bad but i am just starting out and have a lot to learn .

Tanfield culvert was built in 1773 to make a big embankment for the railway above along
With the bridge near by called Causey arch which is the worlds oldest railway bridge .
The bridge and culvert are both grade 1 listed . Well starting from the old side you
Have a sandstone slab floor and a bit on you have an ankle jerking boulder floor
Which then turns into a lovely wooden railway sleeper floor then you end up at a not so
nice modern part the only thing is you need waders as I found out when all I was
wearing was willies so on with the pics .

    The start of the culvert

Looking back towards the way i walked in

Another looking back makes it look like the stream is in flood

some of the wooden beams holding tons of rock and earth up

Looking at this you would think i was down in a mine not a culvert

    modern part of the culvert

    The other side

    Seen this floating about

A sign that makes you want to do it lol

Well that's it hope you enjoy and it's well worth a look
