    Default montrose airstrip, september 2012

After two fails the previous day I was desperate for an explore, and I got it in the end, though not as exiting as a school or a hospital...

Montrose Aerodrome was built on the 26th of February 1913 and used by number two squadron of the AC squadron which then moved to France, after that it became a main training airfield for both the RAF and American forces.

at the moment there is an industrial estate covering most of what would have been the airstrip & buildings.

the runway is still in quite good condition though:

the most interesting things were the anderson style concrete shelters which, all looked more or less exactly the same in each one:

so that was that really, my first explore for zonks and it weren't even a good one, however I've my eye on a few thing that I (hopefully) shall be checking out soon.

    thanks

Montrose is a nice mooch, nice photos you've got

If you go back there's also an old rifle range past all the Bunkers
