This weekend back in january was a good one for tieing up loose ends, finaly getting access to the Newport Technical Insitute / Art College, Have visited the site 2 or 3 times over the last year and always been denied either by nosey neighbours or resident druggies. Luckly work has begun to protect the building from the elements and it has become a little more accessable. It was a great trip today comedy moments on entry and exit. The building itself is fantastic. Mosaic floors and half hight glazed tiled walls in all the public areas, loads of great architectural details and masses of light makes it a very photogenic place must have been a wonderful building back in its prime.

The building opened as the Newport Techincal Instiute in 1910, it later became part of the expanded Gwent Colledge and developed into the home of the School of Art and Design, The Newport School of Art was one of the first Schools to be awarded degree status in 1963 and enjoyed a excellent reputation in painting and sculpture throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Former students include Joe Strummer of the Clash.
