Wakefield ABC Cinema was supposed to be demolised last month so I went back to see if there had been any progress on this. The taxi office is still operational and the building is in one piece.
The cinema was opened on December 9th 1935, and converted from the regal into the ABC. The cinema closed in 1997 as the Canon after failing to compete with the cineworld multiplex in the retail park. Designed by William R Glenn. Alot of his work can be found in many ABC cinemas - you will notice the art deco style railings, windows and doors in particular.
Outside - The replacement building is going to keep the same curve design
