Just as daylight was fading,Not allowed to dig it out as its part of a nature reserve and they are very protective of it.There was a big write up in the local papers years ago about the military damaging the area and the bunkers. The whole area has been used as a training ground, bombing range and also had two rifle ranges one of which is still in use.The forestry commision has taken on the job of trying to preserve the nearby Innes Links Emergency Battery and have carried out an archealogical survey of the area.
They have also buried one of the pillboxes and it is now in use as a bat shelter.

Next an air raid shelter at Stowe Gardens

And finnaly a pillbox that me and Tankman saw on the way back from Melbourne ROC just down the road

Pillbox right next to the A167 at the very south end of Darlington

Structurally good, not too much graff, plenty of rubbish

    Shall we go in?

Shelf was a good idea, shame everything has fallen off it

.. Probably really sore, BB. :P

The small observation post is situated on the S side of a sharp bend in the A942 Great Eastern Road at the W end of Portessie. The structure is at the bottom of a steep slope.
The walls are of shuttered concrete and two small loopholes are set high in the wall. Above the roof is a section of concrete reinforcing. The entrance is at the E end of the building and the interior has either been cut into the natural rock or the building has utilised an existing natural cave. The outer wall has been fixed to the rock using cement and no internal features were noted.
The whole structure has been painted white, but whether this is to provide better visibility at night on a sharp bend in the road or for some other purpose is not known.

It was painted white because some teenagers graffitied the outside and a couple of locals found it an eye sore so they painted over the bright red writing (I couldn't tell you what it said now) with white paint... Should have used grey imo (I used to live here.. this pillbox was a 'if you're local and know about it' thing).

A couple of pillboxes on Dumbarnie Links near Largo in Fife. The area is now a nature reserve and is popular with local naturists. The pillbox closer to the sea has been converted into a bat colony.

    WWII Gun Emplacement
Quite impressive, in good nick apart from damned graff...

Also about a quarter mile in front of it is a small bunker, possibly for a spotter or sighting?
