    A bit of thread necromancy..

These are the magazines and rest areas for the Brancaster Coast Defence Battery, there's an NHER entry (link):

A World War two coastal battery consisting of two brick and concrete roofed gun houses connected by a semi underground complex of magazines and shelters can be seen on aerial photographs of this area and partly remain within and exposed from the sand dunes. This is the best preserved battery in Norfolk. It has been attacked by coastal erosion.

The phrase, "the best preserved battery in Norfolk", is a little over-used on NHE as it's applied to several different batterys. The best preserved I have found is King's Lynn CDB. Probably because it was never fully operational and the sea wall was superseded so erosion isn't an issue.

Looking for something else I've found a copy I made of a related NRO record abstract (C/P11/11). It appears the remaining structures of the battery were retained at the request of Brancaster Golf Club as it was helping to stablise the shore.

They are very similar to the Happsiburgh tunnels. Must make a visit.

ooooooooooh not been here for about 34 years Went with a metal detecting club here all those years ago. did have a look at the pillboxes, but didn't know these were here then. Did you find any shell cases? we found loads of them, all different sizes.

    Cheers,

    Sal
