Arrow Mangersta Chain Home Radar station

Evening all, first post, so go easy on me!

Chain Home was the codename for the ring of coastal radar stations built by the British before and during World War II. The system comprised two types of radar. The Chain Home stations, or AMES Type 1 (Air Ministry Experimental Station), provided long-range detection. The Chain Home Low stations, or AMES Type 2, were shorter-ranged but could detect aircraft flying at lower levels. Wiki article

This was a relatively rushed explore, mostly due to the wind trying to knock me over at the time! And my camera stopped working, but an interesting site, now used by the National Air Traffic Service as a transmitter station. While I was there it appears they were replacing some of the bits of radio wizardry from inside the building. Anyway, here we go. Some pictures

Footing for a building, I'm thinking it was an admin/control building due to the size of it

Tower footing, not sure who Ken was, but hey ho!

Not quite sure what this is, it was in the middle of where a tower would of been, any suggestions?

    Cheers,
    D

The tower in last pic looks "climbable" - be nice views.

Good stuff - first Hebridean military site that I've seen posted here.

IIRC, there's the remains of an R8 ROTOR on Tiree, which was the equivalent of RAF Chenies.

If you don't mind being sterilised by the microwave transmitters.

Joking aside, NATS are quite security conscious and will get twitchy if folk start climbing their masts.

Or blown off into the sea by the wind!

There's a couple of sites out there, including the remains of a CHL radar site further down the (very narrow!) road. Nearly got out to the ROTOR site as well, but didn't have time, wedding to go to and all that!
