I have a great love for Textile mills having worked in the industry, and Westwood Mill is no exception. It's a beautiful building which is now in a bad state of disrepair.
It stands on the banks of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in the shadows of the mighty Victorian Titanic Mills, which has now been converted into residentail use, but has retained It's exterior beauty.
Westwood is grade 2 listed and dates back to the late 18th century when it was owned by the Shaw brothers. John, Jonathan, Joseph and Ely.
It was then leased out in the late 1890's by Joseph Hoyle's. And in 1910 by Colne Valley Spinning.
She was also believed to have suffered a fire in 1977?
The present owners have put any restoration plans on hold due to the state of the current climate that the country seems to be locked in.
Some remedial work has been carried out to shore up the worst affected parts, but there has been no activity there for a while now.
Certain sections are rather unstable, especially on the upper floors.
Anyway..... lets hope that something good becomes of her.
Here are a few pics of a recent visit.
