Arrow Air Raid Shelter, Leicester - Dec 2009

Me and matt found this air raid shelter while checking a few sites out.It had a few tunnels, but was bricked up one end so no idea how much further it went!

    Entrance

    Door at bottom of stairs

    One of the tunnels

There were about four of these wooden partitions, presumably toilets

Another with the door missing, also note the tide mark left by flooding

Yeah it would be interesting to see how much further it goes. Not got a photo of the tunnel that has been bricked up I don't think

on a side note, that entrance door looks interesting, not seen one like that before, not even on preserved air raid shelter sites, looks original though, which is cool

i wonder if it was more than an air raid shelter with a dor like that and the uniform way ots been built (plastered walls etc) could it have served a more complex use during the war, or was re-used after the war?

I wonder, sometimes its impossible to find out tho
Yeah the door was original, the locks and hinges on it were a bit mental. It seems to big to have just been used by the place it sits under, so maybe it was a public one too. There are others in the city that have plastered walls, did find the lack of signage in this one odd though.
