Arrow Maple mill, Oldham Jan 2010

You may have seen in the news at the time in April 2009 there was a huge fire at this place that burned for ages and took shed loads of fireman to deal with.

As regards info and history you can have a search on google and you'll find loadsa info.

Here's a little info I foud from one hit on Google:

Maple Mill in Cardwell Street, Oldham - over 100 years old and largest of the remaining cotton mills in the North of England - last operated in its traditional industry when owned by Courtaulds Spinning in the 1990s. It was a highly efficient manufacturer of open-end yarns, operating to the best international productivity standards. However, subsidised competition, in a climate of falling demand and world-wide over capacity, drove yarn prices down to a point where the mill was no longer viable, despite the owners reportedly spending £5 million modernising the production infrastructure at Maple Mill.

thanks buddy. Was driving down the main road that this is off, saw it in the distance and thought .... aye, aye that might be worth a look. So home for a change of clothes n footwear and off I went - wasn't going to waste a lovely day like this afternoon.

sad to see so much industry gone down the tubes and the mills disappearing on one way or another

Thats some serious damage, you can see where the heat has twisted the beams. I notice that its only still standing because of the mobile mast.

yea, but the mobile mast is "dead" they cut it off when the fire was raging!!

i went down there the day after the fire, as its only down the road for me, and got these:-

this was took from the upstairs bedroom window of my house, about three miles away as the crow flies. the fire had been burning around 6 hours at this point.

    the day after....

i didnt go down on the night as i was attending AC/DC in manchester and was too pissed to drive down to watch the fun!! LOL

and FYI the mill is ACTUALLY maple B. maple A still stands intact next door.

    B..
