Arrow Hensol Hospital, 07 and possibly 08

Another one i dont appear to have ever posted on here so lets take another tip in the way back when machine. First visited with Rooks back before the big urbex split of 08 and again With zippy and finally with a load of southeners on their South Wales roadtrip,

Opened in 1930 as the Glamorgan Colony for Male Mental defectives on the site of Hensol castle a stately home owned by the Price family, original accomodation was for 100 patients housed within the castle itself but later a colony of 9 villas were built to designs by the county architect William James Nash wer built arround a central recreation hall, these raised the hospital capacity to around 550. a further 3 large isolated villas were built in the 1950's increasing capacity by a further 840 patients. the hospital gradually switched to outpatient care from the 60's when a new outpatient hosptial was added supporting the move to community care the hospital was closed in 2004. The site is now home to the **** Vale Hotel and golf course, the Cardiff Blues trainining academy while the hospital buildings were left derelict awating conversion into luxuary housing units.
