Another trip back in the Wayback When Machine, the only exploring i'm doing at the moment
The Llysaght institute was the first explore where I took photo's unfortunatley these are the only ones i can find from back then not the best ive ever taken but there we are
The Institute was the working mans club for Orb Steelworks, Built in 1928 in as W.R Lysaght Institute The institute had been constructed as a memorial of W.R Lysaght's fifty years as the company's chairman and was financed jointly by the company and workers contributions. The institute stood in 8 acres of ground near the work's main gates and provided a public bar, smoking room, lounge, billiards room, skittle alley, reading room and recreation hall within the elaborate building. Surrounded by tennis courts, bowling green, putting green and ornamental garden.
the institute closed in 2001 after a vote by the members decided to sell the land to the council who planned to demolish the institute to make way for a new road. the eventual route by passed the institute and it has remained abandoned until today. THe site has been proposed as a housing estate a mac donalds and a pizza express all of which came to nothing it has recently been passed on to a not for profit developer who aim to save the institute buildings and develop the remainder of the site for retail purposes, Its a lot more trashed now than it is in these photos and almost nothing remains intact within the institute.
