Arrow Medlock Culvert, Manc, March 2010

'Medlock Culvert' - Visited By Ojay, Gone, Rookie & Appo.

This section of the Medlock (which Oddly eniugh has never been given a nickname) is literally culverted under the Eastlands area of Manchester, it is reasonably short and sweet but is full of lovely Victorian Brick-Like Goodness. Around halfway through it is intersected with a cool waterfall from the nearby canal system that runs through Philips Park, and then proceeds down to the Outfall towards Aardwick.

After a long night of random buildering, liftsurfing and rooftops we decided to go underground once again before we headed off home in the real early hours.

After wadering up we all headed in, with the exception of Appo who had to be carried in by Gone piggy back stylee into the Infall, quite literally whilst myself and Rookie got to work.

Now we were now in the depths of the Medlock Culvert, and really I have never experienced coldness like it!

Anyway after around an hour of dicking around Gone had vanished into the mist, he really had a problem with his works and tried real hard not to discharge any sewerfresh down here LOL

I had just packed my gear away when Rookie shouted me over to look at some liddage that he spotted in the weir, except it turned out that said liddage being used as a stepping stone was actually some 19th century Tombstone washed up from yester-year. After taking a few shots in-situ I decided to wrestle it out of the water leaving Rookie to clean it up before we took some more photos and finally left it in peace.

    Thanks for looking

Nice stuff mate, very interesting indeed. I love the discovery of the tombstone too - how odd? Looking at it, it is for a 5 year old girl - how terribly sad.

Knowing some of the anti-semitic strife the area has had, it wouldn't surprise me if the tombstone had been deliberately thrown in the river. It might be worth giving the heads-up to the local council, maybe, so it can be returned to it's rightful place? Anonymously, of course.

Some lovely pics there - I like that alot.
Flickr kindly host my images for me. My flickr page is here

    Wow, amazing report and pictures
    Shame about the tombstone though.
I'm going with what Doozer said, maybe tell the council about it?
