St Crispin Mental Hospital, Northampton, 20-02-2010

This is one of my first reports, as a newbie UE and photographer, so please bare with me.

Having wanted to pop my asylum cherry for a while, I finally decided to start out with an easy explore at St. Crispin Mental Hospital in Northampton. Most of the site has undergone major developments, and the few buildings that still stand have been pretty much stripped, but work has stopped. We visited in the snow and the wet conditions made some areas non accessible (in my world anyway).

There are barely any features left, though I am sure the clock tower is worth a visit. I wasn’t feeling risking my life today though, and the place was overrun by chavs, who decided to climb the tower, just confirming I should probably stay away.

This visit was mostly to see the place, but I am returning in the very near future to spend a whole day with my camera and a very much needed torch to capture whatever features are left. I know I missed out some essentials, such as the projector room and there are some interesting drawings in the admin building, but I didn’t have a proper torch, so my pictures of them are very ‘flash’. I am also keen to explore the basements and tunnels, though I am sure flooding will stop me. Anyone care to join, just let me know  I think we are already a good group going, though more photographers than UE’ers.
