Arrow Broadford Works, Aberdeen - 03/2010

I went here with Alasdair (who has just joined UrbEx Forums, yay!)

    Broadford works in Aberdeen.
I was in here for an hour and I covered nothing. There is a lot more to explore and there was something about exploring in the middle of the night. I will be coming back here when I'm next in Aberdeen

Just in case you haven't heard of this place before here's some info and olde pictures.
Also sorry about some of the images, I don't have a massive flash and the one on my camera sucks so the edits are.. Bright.. But I found the bulb mode on the Canon (as I was leaving) so next visit will have better images

Broadford (linen) Mills, Maberley Street; founded in 1808. A large and interesting group of buildings, the most striking being a 4-storey, 15-bay windowless brick flax store with castellated central tower and corner turrets. The earliest part appears to be a handsome 4-storey and attic granite block with a bellcote, modified by the addition of a brick water- and stair-tower. There are three other large brick ranges, two granite flax stores, and a tall square-section brick chimney, built 1864.

    History

Founded more than 200 years ago, Richards operated what was to become the oldest iron-frame mill in Scotland and the last remaining textile mill in the 'Granite City'. It was also one of the principal employers with more than 3,000 people working in the mill at its height in the early 20th century.

Broadford's great, it can take a full day to see all of it. BTW, watch out if you're using flash there at night, the neighbours aren't friendly…

Yeah, I did figure that might be the case and only used flash inside the buildings. Might just go with good old bulb mode and leave it for 5 minutes next time and then edit it in photoshop to bring out the image?

Hmm, true. I'll go with the 30 second exposures but I have spare batteries
The discreet light painting does sound like fun...
