Hey y'all
My first attempt at a report so go easy please! This was only my third outing, and I was alone and, ahem, a bit wonky!
I spotted this place a couple of weeks ago while out taking photographs and made it back there yesterday afternoon to go inside. I only got in to 1 part of the building so it's only a mini-report I'm afraid.
I'm not sure how well known the place is, so here's a little bit of info...
Here she is back in the day:-
"St Ann's Mills was founded as a water mill about 1775 and the ruins are still visible today. The present building was constructed around 1830 and was among the first "purpose built" steam-powered mills in Leeds. It has beautiful stone-flagged floors and employs the "fireproof brick arch" construction that was widely used for early nineteenth century textile mills, but the pitched roof was badly damaged by fire in 1975, and the Council made a most unsatisfactory repair."
Here she is today:-
As you can see, the entire top 2 stories have been completely destroyed
Inside, the beautiful stone-flagged floors are long-gone too:-
This old lift provided the only internal access to the upper floors (that I could find):-
It didn't seem to be working, I waited bloody ages aswell...
There was a sink full of god knows what:-
...but otherwise very few signs of anyone having been in there in a long time...
Just me and my camera
I even had time for a self-portrait! You lucky people...!
So there you go, hope it wasn't too long and boring for such a small place...
There's a load of info on the place here:-
