Arrow Baileys Mill Delph April 2010

    BAILEYS MILL DELPH

Explored with Judders, Noods, Ceejam and Theoss (when he eventually turned up )

We all know the history on this! But I was intrigued as to what the dates on the mill signified

But a little research threw up some interesting facts. The Mill was built in three stages during the 1800's. Between 1861-1865 Oldham was hit hard with the Cotton Famine and all supplies of raw material from the US was stopped, and a huge loss of jobs ensued. And in order to find employment for the Mill workers, a committee was set up in 1863 to help construct Alexandra Park, which opened in 1865. And by 1871 Oldham had the most Spinning Frames in the country. So the dates do tie in somehow, but may just be coincidental.

    On with more pics then.

    Order books from 1931-34

Swatch samples from 1930 complete with original pin

The remains of the Loom and a few close ups

    Presumably the date of manufacture

    Picking Tools

    Interior shots

Noods and Judders busy at work.

    Thanks for looking.

    And the rest here

Nice shots as always Silent. I love this place and especially the ledgers, order books and sample books.

here are my shots from the day.

    62 years apart :

    we nearly missed these:

in one of the side buildings - it looked like someone may well have been squatting in there - it was well minging - the amount of mould was quite revolting:

I wanted to see if I could find a ledger with an entry on the day I was bron - this is the nearest I found - 2 days after I was born:

    lots more pics here.
