    Arrow USAF F4 Phantom - Derelict 11/04/10

    This F4 Phantom needs rescuing
It has HELP ME! written all over it.
And I know where it should go, Upper Heyford

The history of this aircraft is one of a former Gate Guard at Lakenheath.
It still belongs to the USAF and is on lone
To move it permission has to be sought from them.
    So a long process starts.......
    On with the pics.

Its all complete, even down to the engines, but they are currently under cover

    More pics here:

Default Re: USAF F4 Phantom - Derelict 11/04/10 Report

I used to work on 228 OCU at Leuchars and also out at Bruggen.Scrapping them wasn't a problem as they also came under a ssalt disarmament treaty but they couldnt be sold off to museums and the like without the government having to ask the yanks for approval.Hanningfield Metals delt with the planes from Wattisham and wanted to display the one that was painted in tiger markings on their main gate but were told in no uncertan terms that this wasn' an option. There was also an inccident at Conningsby (I think) a few years ago when there was an arms inspection and they found two cockpit sections that were getting a cheap paint job.The didnt see the funny side of this and the Mod wanted them scrapped. It didnt happen and now one is at Hackgreen Bunker.
They even transported the BDR Phantoms back from Germany when they closed the camps out there and stuck them on weapons ranges back here.
This one was used as a fire trainer at Bruggen

Move along now,Nothing too see here.
