Arrow Abandoned factory, Brierley Hill, West Mids, May '10

No history, so fasten those seatbelts for mindless social commentary readers. You know you laaave it.

For some folk, (and I include myself here regularly), Urban Exploration is a bit like being a member of the National Trust; checking out a place on line, finding out the details and popping along on a lovely day out. It's good fun, you know what to expect, and it's exciting ticking off the things in the UE i-spy handbook. I know; I've got the cagoule and the car sticker.
Except that sometimes I remember that on the homepage of the forum is a message that I often forget. Exploring the Unexplored and the Unknown. And sometimes, that makes things more edgy and exciting.
I'm in the Black Country today, checking out some Midlands shizz with the lovely Frogbox, including this derelict factory.

After a scramble past a few obstacles, we headed on in. The place lay stripped and silent.

Of course places like this don't have security. Why would they? However that makes them more dangerous and tense. Who else is in this sort of place?

The homeless? The chavs? The man injecting junk? The dead? We headed up the stairs and onto the landing.

This place had clearly spent much time on fire since it was abandoned. Paint peeled and smell of smoke and damp hung in the air.

Some people might tell you that there is nothing to see here, and to move along. They are lying to you. There is loads to check out; the colours, the textures, the dereliction.

Underneath, the basement was flooded, and dark. A 30 second exposure with light painting picked up a few details. Even the rats had left.

The fuses had long been ripped off, and the room trashed and forgotten.

There is always time for a Frogbox people shot (page 6 - hood up silhouette - The Urbex Guide to People Shots - available at all good bookshops) Here it is.

I read this as 'an abandoned box factory' and thought of the simpsons.

A decidedly ugly building, but some very nice shots there, BF

Last shot is pretty. Also love second and fourth.
