Air raid shelter, newhey, rochdale 05/10

I spotted this a good long time ago, but never really got round to giving it a closer look.

the location of, what i presume, is an air raid shelter. is on the site of the former haugh hey colliery in Newhey which is just out of rochdale.
its location seems a bit odd TBH and the colliery was well closed by the war so im not really 100% certain what it was there to serve.

it features 2 rooms and a short linking corridor at one end, but there is no evidence of anything else inside. its a bit of a mystery TBH, so any more info would be appreciated!!

It looks very similar from the outside to one in a park just outside Leeds. THe whole construction does look ww2 type. Is there anything on Defence of Britain database?
