Arrow Cold War Jets Open Day - Bruntingthorpe 30/5/10

Me and BK went down to Bruntingthorpe to take in this now very popular event that is run twice a year

The weather held out and gave us some fantastic photo opportunitys along with watching these old "Cold War" warriors run up there engines for the fast taxying down the runway
We were given the delights of the resident Lightnings, (now in there rebuilt QRA Hangers), H P Victor, EE Canberra, HS Buccaneer, Hawker Hunter and the last of the day the DH Comet, which I think as far as I know is the only comet left now in running condition.

The latest addition to the collection to arrive was a Nimrod which flew in recently direct from its withdrawal from Kinloss. Like the otherr jets it will form part of the fast taxying in the next open day

If you missed it make sure you get down to the next one

    Some pics:

The Buccaneer did some excellent warm up runs for photos, before taxying down the runway.

The two resident Lightnings now reside in the original QRA hanger that has painstakingly been re-erected from Binbrook

The Victor starting on her fast taxy down the runway, (no take off this year, unlike last year) a lovely restoration has been carried out on her

The latest addition to the collection the Nimrod, still under MOD ownership, so it could not be powered up on this occasion as it apparently still contains sensitive equipment that needs to be removed

And the First passenger jet airliner the DH Comet! its nice to see some old passenger planes still breathing!
A credit to the guys at Bruntingthorpe

And on static display the French built Airbus Skylink, surely one of the most ugly and strange planes ever flown

The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.

I think there's at least one flight a week into Hawarden Airport at Broughton.

You got nice weather this year, I went a year or two back and it absolutely hammered down from dawn 'til dusk

The flight into Broughton is by the 'Beluga', a modified airbus that replaced the neolithic era Guppies.
