Noah's ark Tunnels &Winchelsea Tunnels 27th july 2010

Right first of me and unclebulgaria went out to have a look see if noahs ark was accessible,which it was due to vandals stripping the building and basically wrenching open every door they could..the dividing wall from the barwicks to noah's ark road section had been smashed down ..well brickwork and the door with strudy lock gone..we worked our way right up to the noah's ark road entrance heard cars and a womans voice then the crackle of a police walki talkie..assuming they where inside and just ahead of us we stealthily turned backtowards our entrance expecting a police escort home..but as it happens nothing there..so after that we headed dopwn to winchelsea,westmount &priory hill chalk quarry which i believe was dug out for the chalk to be used on the dover harbour work..the tunnels had a lot of storage inside the big double doors which where wide open and the main tunnel up was tricky to clamber over till we got to a left turn..and going further forward was pretty much blocked now not knowing the layout of said tunnels that well not sure where that lead too..but we ventured round and got to the Fiveways Junction..where 2 sections had been blocked up with breeze blocks and thank you to whoever removed enuff for us to keep going..my lighting was a cree lenser which dissapointingly didnt have the promised flood to spot lense ..well it did it just didnt work that well so excuse the lighting ,should have taken me maglite..right on with noahs ark as many pics as we got before we quickly went back away from the voice of the police lady with the radio !!

Thanks for looking shame my lenser cree with the spot too flood Failed doing the spot but fun was had..also found an old private shelter in ramsgate on a building site where the caffyns garage used to be but small mainly backfilled so didnt even get the camera out!!

The dividing wall in the Noah's Ark tunnel, which seperates it fron the Barwicks end was taken down last year with permission from John Barwick when the tunnel was opened-up for a group visit I organised last year. The first time I went in there a few years ago now, the wooden dividing wall wasn't there at all. It was built on the Noah's Ark side without their knowledge at about the same time the FW Dairy bottle was stolen which is in my thread on the place.

You could have got in the tunnels much easier if you'd turned-up at the open day a few months ago. I was one of the guides. They were open all day and it was free. Not the same though is it?

herbivore was you on this visit with unfairy tale ??same message i just got on 28days lol..and no not the same it was completely trashed when we got to it..a bit of brickwork with a locked door the lock remains just not much else!!now ive checked exactly the same message lol

yeah i gathered that mate shame the site is so trashed i emailed the ark centre to ask for permission to go in there entrance before i realised just how trashed barwicks was..i knew it had shut down but didnt realise every single thing that was locked in the yard had been wrenched open..wouldnt dream of doing anything like that

It looks a good place to visit here, and decent lighting too

Chavs serve their purpose in opening sites-up but then they fuck it up by trashing everthing when they get in. It was ok when Barwicks was open because it guarded their entrance but now the place has burned down I guess it'll be a free for all.

we met a few blokes on the way out with rucksacks they asked if we'd been "scrapping"pointed out No tunnel mate..he had no idea it was there

No idea it was there!! 380 people went in there a couple of months ago (on the Ark open day) and over 200 last year. The tunnel will be open next year too if there's anything left of it!
